A couple weeks ago I wrote about why Fairway is starting mobile instead of opening a building on day one. Since then, most of the actual work hasn't been very visible from the outside — it's been the unglamorous stuff: leveling up the equipment, and building the software that ties it all together.
On the equipment side, this wasn't a from-scratch shopping trip. A surprising amount of what a setup like this needs — the display, the laptop that runs everything, a tent, seating — was already sitting around from other parts of life, repurposed rather than bought new. What actually needed real investment was the two pieces that matter most for the golf itself: a professional-grade launch monitor that captures real ball-flight data instead of a rough estimate, and a proper inflatable screen and enclosure system built to handle real outdoor conditions instead of a bedsheet and a prayer. Getting those two right was the actual priority — everything else was already sitting in the garage.
The quieter work has been on the software side. Most evenings the last couple of weeks have gone into building the actual booking and check-in system myself — the same kind of platform I build for a living, just pointed at my own business instead of somebody else's. That's not a nice-to-have for me; it's the difference between "a guy with a simulator" and something that actually runs like a business. I've also been working through the practical logistics that never show up in a pitch — like exactly what it takes, power-wise, to run this equipment cleanly at an outdoor event, and building that into how the whole thing gets planned.
None of this is dramatic. It's just what it looks like to take something seriously before asking anyone else to take it seriously too. The gap between "an idea" and "something that can actually show up and deliver" is a lot smaller than it was two weeks ago.
